Hopkins delighted at securing showdown spot

John Hopkins claimed that he “couldn’t be happier” at securing a showdown place in the British Superbike Championship with a second place finish in race three at Brands Hatch.

After finishing fourth in the first of the Brands Hatch triple header on Saturday, the Samsung Suzuki rider claimed a third and a second place finish in Sunday’s two races, securing him a place in the final showdown for the rider’s championship.

And consistency was the key for Hopkins, with the likes of Shane Byrne, Tommy Hill and Ryuichi Kiyonari all struggling at some point over the weekend, particularly race one.

Hopkins was narrowly beaten to the chequered flag by Hill in race three of the weekend but the Anglo-American was still pleased with his performance.

“Hats off to Tommy Hill as he had a good race; we did everything we could to try and beat them today but it just wasn’t quite enough,” claimed Hopkins.

“The Samsung Crescent Racing Suzuki was working awesome in that race after the problems we had earlier in the day and I had no issues in the final race. I made a slight mistake on the last lap that cost me a bit of time but at the end of the day I was trying my hardest and doing everything we possibly could as always and I think we put on a good show for the crowd.

“Maybe if we had a fourth race we could have won as we had moved up a position in every race! We are in the Showdown now and I am looking forward to Cadwell Park. It’s going to be a busy three weeks for me but I couldn’t be happier right now.”
