Hopkins returns at Misano

John Hopkins will return to World Superbikes at Misano after missing the last three rounds with a hip injury.

The American confirmed that he will return to action at Misano on June 21 after being forced to sit on the sidelines since injuring his hip in a high-side crash at Assen back in April.

The former Kawasaki MotoGP rider was unable to walk immediately following the high-speed crash, with his hip severely dislocated along with a crack the top of his femur the end result of the tumble.

Hopkins underwent surgery three weeks ago and the operation has been hailed a success, with the 26-year-old ready to race in two weeks time.

The Stiggy Honda rider said: “The aim right now is to get back in shape before the next race in Misano. I have been bed-ridden for two weeks straight, which was an absolute horror for me.

“Right now I am just obeying my doctor’s orders and take things step by step. I’m back on my feet walking again without sticks and I am going into the gym again on Monday. I need to rebuild the strength in my muscles and improve my fitness again.”
