ITV to continue screening BSB highlights

ITV has confirmed that it will continue to show highlights of the British Superbike Championship in 2010 after agreeing to extend its television rights deal.

As part of the deal, which is an extension of the existing contract, ITV will air a one-hour highlight programme from each of the twelve BSB rounds on digital channel ITV4 on the Wednesday after each race weekend, with a subsequent repeat on Saturday.

As with this year, the programmes will feature the action from the previous weekend’s Superbike races, together with grid walks, post race interviews, behind the scenes features and exclusive competitions.

Highlights will also be available online through ITV Player and the broadcaster has suggested that BSB events could also be screened on its flagship channel ITV1 .

“It’s great to be to be able to confirm our 2010 broadcast plans so early and that BSB is now established within the ITV Sport portfolio,” said BSB series director Stuart Higgs. “TV and trackside fans alike can look forward to a compelling seasons racing with new regulations designed to make the racing even more exciting.”

“I’m delighted that ITV will continue to be the free-to-air home of British Superbikes,” added Niall Sloane, ITV Controller of Sport. “The series has provided high quality racing with plenty of thrills and has a cast of personalities and heroes that the fans adore. We are certainly looking forward to broadcasting a new season of fierce competition.”
