Kiyonari on top at Brands
Ryuichi Kiyonari was the man to watch at Brands Hatch this afternoon, stealing pole position for tomorrow’s thrilling season opener.
After making his way into the third session in the Roll for Pole battle, Kiyonari proved to have the upperhand as he rode his HM Plant Honda to top spot ahead of tomorrow’s first race of 2010. Tommy Hill followed the British Superbike regular into second, while Alastair Seeley recorded the third quickest time in the final eight minute shoot out. Dan Linfoot, riding the Motorpoint Yamaha will starting from fourth, joining Seeley, his fellow BSB rookie on the front row of the grid.
Josh Brookes roared to the fifth quickest time, just ahead of Tommy Bridewell, Michael Laverty and Yukio Kagayama.
The final two spots in the top ten were filled by Stuart Easton and James Ellison - two riders who occupied the front of the field on many occasions during 2009. BSB expert, James Ellison, was unable to see the track in the final eight minute session due to a technical problem at the end of the second qualifying stint, and so will start tomorrow’s first of two races from tenth on the grid.
The Mirror.co.uk BSB-Evo class was dominated by Steve Brogan, with setting the fastest time in 16th, while Craig Fitzpatrick and David Johnson weren’t far behind.
Tomorrow is shaping up to be an extremely exciting battle to the chequered flag, with two chances to see your BSB heroes in action. Each rider’s second fastest qualifying times will determine their starting positions for race two, meaning the second race could be very different to the first. Something to look forward to.
