Laverty triumphs at Cadwell
Michael Laverty triumphed in difficult conditions during the first of three races at Cadwell Park this afternoon, with a red flag intervening part way through.
Rescheduled from Oulton Park earlier in the year, this first race again encountered difficulties, when a red flag stopped proceedings part way through due to heavy rain. Despite the brief stoppage, Laverty prevailed through the action to score victory.
As the race got underway. Laverty made good use of his advantage to take the lead from his Swan Yamaha teammate Tommy Hill. As the race developed, Laverty was able to hold onto top spot, whilst Hill made it a one-two finish for the Yamaha outfit.
A fierce battle for the final podium position soon ensued, with Josh Brookes getting the better of championship leader Shany Byrne for the privilege. Jon Kirkham slotted into fifth, narrowly ahead of Ryuichi Kiyonari. Kirkham’s strong finish enabled the Samsung Crescent Racing Suzuki rider to enhance his position in the championship standings, as he continues his battle with Gary Mason, who finished seventh.
With just three more spots in the top ten up for grabs it was Martin Jessopp secured a strong eighth place finish as the chequered flag fell. Meanwhile Peter Hickman and Glen Richards completed the prestigious top ten finishing positions.
Bank Holiday Monday (tomorrow) will see two more races take place. As the championship edges towards the season finale all attentions are focused on who will take the necessary points towards their 2011 title campaign.
