Lorenzo delighted with San Marino success
Jorge Lorenzo claimed that yesterday was one of the best days of his career after he closed the gap on championship leader Casey Stoner.
The defending champion closed the gap on Stoner to 35 points with a success at Misano on Sunday, although the Yamaha man was pushed all the way by Repsol Honda rider in the early stages.
Lorenzo however, responded to the pressure by breaking the circuit record with a lap twelve time of 1:33.906, to beat Dani Pedrosa to the chequered flag, with Stoner having to make do with third place.
The result delighted Lorenzo, who has kept his title challenge alive, and he dedicated the victory to Wayne Rainey, who was in Misano as part of Yamaha’s 50-year celebration.
“Today has been an incredible day for us,” said Lorenzo. “I delivered a good race; it was a very tough and long one. Most importantly we won again and also reduced our gap to Casey.
“I want to dedicate this victory to Wayne who returned to Misano this weekend and I want to say thanks to all my team for their hard work. Now we have two weeks before Aragon, I hope to continue in this shape in my country. This has been one of the best days of my career!”
