Lorenzo ruled out of Malaysia GP
Jorge Lorenzo will not race at Sepang this weekend despite a successful surgery on the hand injury that kept him out of Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix.
Lorenzo was forced out of Sunday’s Grand Prix at Phillip Island, leaving Casey Stoner free to claim the MotoGP championship, after badly damaging fingers on his left hand during the warm-up.
Yamaha said Lorenzo underwent surgery in Melbourne on Sunday evening but confirmed that the Spaniard will miss the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday.
“The surgeon was able to save the nerves and tendons of the injured fourth finger. As a result no functionality will be lost in either the finger or the hand,” the team said.
“Unfortunately an extended recovery time will be required so Jorge will not race in Sepang for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
“A decision on the Valencia Grand Prix will be made dependent on Jorge’s condition after his return to Barcelona.”
