Lorenzo seeking victory at “favourite” track

Jorge Lorenzo is heading to Assen this weekend in confident mood after extending his championship lead at Silverstone, looking forward to racing at his favourite circuit on the calendar.

Lorenzo extended his lead in the championship to 37 points at the weekend with a processional victory at Silverstone, winning by a margin of more than 6.7 seconds over Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso, strengthening his grip on the MotoGP championship.

And Lorenzo is looking forward to what he claims is his favourite circuit at Assen this weekend, a track which has provided him with plenty of happy memories from the MotoGP support classes.

The Mallorcan claimed his first victory at Assen with Derbi in the 125cc championship in 2004 before winning consecutive 250cc Grand Prix’s with Aprilia in 2006 and 2007 and he is the bookies favourite to pick up his first premier class victory in the Dutch TT on Saturday.

“We have started this run of three races in a row as perfectly as we could have wished and Silverstone was a great race and very important for the championship,” said Lorenzo. “But now we move on and we just have to try to continue in the same way.

“Next we arrive at Assen, my favourite track, and once again we’re aiming for the podium. The team is working very well together and now we will just concentrate on trying to improve the M1 even more; it’s important to keep growing.

“I’ve won at Assen in 125 and 250 so I’d really like to try to win in MotoGP.”
