Lowe to follow Crutchlow’s example
British Supersport Champion Sam Lowe believes that he can follow in the footsteps of Cal Crutchlow and work his way to the MotoGP paddock, after signing up with the Parkalgar WSS team for 2011.
The Lincolnshire rider believes that Cal Crutchlow, who will make his MotoGP debut in 2011, is the perfect inspiration for him in 2010 as he looks to work his way from British Supersport to the pinnacle of the motorcycle racing.
After winning the British Supersport title in 2010, Lowe will move to Parkalgar Honda to fill the seat vacated by Eugene Laverty, who has moved to the Yamaha World Superbike team for 2010 and the 20-year-old is already looking forward to pushing his claim for a place in MotoGP.
“As a rider, you’ve got to believe you can get there (MotoGP) – it’s every rider’s dream and I’ll do everything I can to do it,” he told the Grimsby Telegraph.
“If you’re good enough you can make it, you’ve just got to work hard towards it.
“It doesn’t matter what nationality you are.”
Lowe will work under the watchful eye of Parkalgar boss Steve Buckmaster, who helped Laverty to secure two second place championship finishes in WSS, losing in 2009 to Crutchlow, and the boss has urged Lowe to follow Crutchlow’s example.
“I worked with Cal Crutchlow in 2006 and 2007,” he said. “He’s been a British Supersport champion, he’s been in a winner in British Superbikes and he’s won the World Supersport Championship. He’s also won in World Superbikes and has now gone up to MotoGP.
“Cal’s progression and determination is a shining example for Sam Lowes to follow.
“And if Eugene has a good year, there’s every chance he could get a MotoGP ride soon.
“Crutchlow and Laverty evolved from the British Championship quite quickly.
“The British Championship is a great series and a great breeding ground.
“Crutchlow’s done it, Laverty is on his way to doing it. If you’re good enough, there is proof that you can do it.
“If you’re great rider and you take your chances when you get them, it can be done.”
