Mainwaring confirmed as Team Maxxis rider

Howie Mainwaring will remain with Maxxis-Adept Yamaha team for the remainder of the 2009 British Superbike Championship after the team agreed to release regular rider Dave Johnson from his contract.

Mainwaring, who is sponsored by leading bike insurance broker Carole Nash, rode for the team at Cadwell Park two weeks ago as a stand-in for the injured Johnson, who, securing an impressive 14th place finish on his BSB debut.

Johnson has failed score points on ten occasions, including five retirements, from 14 starts this season and it was a crash at Brands Hatch in round eight that forced the Australian to miss the round at Cadwell and the third part of the Brands triple header.

And the team have today announced that Mainwaring has been tasked with riding their Yamaha YZF-R1 for the remained of the season, having agreed to release Johnson from his existing contract.

“Dave Johnson has formally been released from his contract after discussions earlier this week,” said development director Julian Mosquera. “We wish Dave all the best in his plans for the future and will endeavour to help in any way we can in his pursuit of another ride in the series.

“On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Dave for his contribution and the commitment he has shown throughout the 18 months he has been with us.”
