Mladin on brink of WSB move
AMA Superbike legend Mat Mladin has hinted that a move to World Superbikes could be on the cards, with a privateer BMW entry thought to be most likely.
Mladin, who wrapped up his seventh AMA superbike championship in 2009, quit the AMA series at the end of the season in a dispute with the series’ new governing body DMG over circuit safety.
Although officially “retired” from the sport, Mladin is thought to have been seeking out rides for 2010 and the 37-year-old Australian revealed on his Twitter feed that a number of offers have come his way.
“A couple of world superbike offers have come my way in the past month. 1 of them very good in regards to machinery. decisions decisions.”
It’s believed that those offers have come from the Yoshimura team, who will be running a wildcard Suzuki in a number of WSB rounds next season, although a privateer BMW offer is also thought to be on the table.
Mladin ended his career in the AMA championship with 82 individual race wins, more than any other rider in the championship’s history.
