Estoril; Rossi Wins It;

Valentino Rossi took another step closer to the world MotoGP title with a win at the Estoril track, in the Portugeuse GP today.

Fellow Italian Max Biaggi was second, after leading the race early on, whilst Rossi’s main title rival, Spain’s Sete Gibernau, was back in 4th spot. Loris Capirossi brought the Ducati home in 3rd place, making the podium an all-Italian affair.

It was another dazzling display from Rossi, on what is considered one of the tightest tracks on the GP calendar. Lap records were broken as Rossi battle to establish a two second advantage over Biaggi by the chequered flag.

Further down the field, Ukawa came home in 5th place, whilst Troy Bayliss was 6th, Mealndri 7th, Checa 8th, then Honda rookie Nicky Hayden in 9th spot. The boy’s gradually getting faster. Colin Edwards on the Alice Aprilia was back in 14th.
