MotoGP testing restrictions relaxed
MotoGP testing restrictions will be relaxed for 2012, with teams being allowed unlimited use of their race riders during in-season testing next year.
Under previous restrictions, introduced as part of cost-cutting measures last season, race riders were banned from taking part in any tests other than official IRTA tests that take place sporadically during the season, typically following the races in Estoril, Mugello and Brno, as well as pre-season tests in Valencia and Malaysia.
But from next year, race riders will be able to test unrestricted, with the only limit being on the number of tyres that can be used.
“It was agreed that with effect from 2012 private testing of MotoGP class machines may be carried out by any rider, subject to a limit on the total number of tyres being supplied by the official MotoGP tyre supplier,” read a statement from the FIM. “Final details will be confirmed at the next GPC meeting in December.”
The new test rules will also cover running taking place for the remainder of this year.
Among the other rule changes agreed upon are a spec brake disc size of 320mm for bikes not running under CRT rules and a mandate that all bikes must carry brake lever protection.
