MotoGP to remain at IMS until 2014
MotoGP will remain at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway until 2014, after circuit owners agreed a deal with Dorna Sports.
The USA will host three Grand Prix’s from next season, with the American Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, California, and the Texas Grand Prix at the new Circuit of the Americas in Austin.
The future of the Indianapolis Grand Prix, first run in 2008, had previously been in doubt following the addition of Austin to the MotoGP calendar. The circuit has also been criticised by some riders over the poor surface, although the infield portion of the circuit was completely re-laid for this season’s Grand Prix.
“We’re happy to welcome back the exciting action and colourful, daring riders of MotoGP to IMS,” said Jeff Belskus, IMS president and chief executive officer. “This event brings a unique international flavour and style of racing to the Speedway that has become a solid, new tradition on our annual schedule. We’re excited about the event’s potential for continued growth into the future.”
