Neukirchner Poses Biggest Threat According To Bayliss

World Superbikes championship leader Troy Bayliss believes that Max Neukirchner poses his greatest threat at this weekend’s meeting at the Nurburgring.

The Australian, who holds a 28 point lead at the top of the championship table, has failed to finish in the points in his last three races, retiring in race two in Italy and race one in Salt Lake City whilst finishing a lowly 22nd in the second race in America.

But whilst Spaniard Carlos Checa closed the gap on the Ducati rider in the last round, Bayliss believes that German Max Neukirchner poses the bigger threat to his championship lead this weekend.

The Suzuki rider has impressed so far this season, working his way to third in the championship with four podiums this season including victory at Monza in May and Bayliss feels that home advantage for the 26-year-old could give him a strong advantage as the championship reaches the half-way point.

“I know that Max will be looking for a home win and he knows the track too so competition will be stiff but I’m fit and ready to race,” said the 2006 champion.

“I came away from the last round in Salt Lake City extremely disappointed and so I’m hoping to have a much more positive weekend now in Germany. It’s another track that I don’t know at all, so again we will have to learn as we progress through the weekend in order to arrive at the best set-up for Sunday.”
