Neukirchner Signs New Suzuki Deal
Max Neukirchner has been rewarded for his early season form with a two-year contract extension with Suzuki Alstare.
The German has signed a deal which will keep him with the Alstare World Superbikes Team until 2010, effectively ending speculation of a move away from the Belgian outfit.
It was believed that the form of the 25-year-old had attracted interest from MotoGP bosses Dorna, who are said to be looking for a German rider to replace Alex Hoffman, who was sacked by D’Antin after the Portuguese GP back in 2007.
It was also thought that BMW were considering an approach as they prepare to enter a team in next season’s World Superbikes Championship.
The 26-year-old became the first German rider in history to win a World Superbike race last weekend and has been a consistent performer this season, recording six top five finishes, including three podiums, in the opening five rounds.
A brief statement issued by Alstare Suzuki described Neukirchner as one of the sports “rising stars” and claimed the signing to be a “great coup.”
