No complacency for Crutchlow in WSS decider

Cal Crutchlow heads to Portugal in pole position as he looks to wrap up the World Supersport championship this weekend.

The Coventry rider takes a 19-point lead over Parkalgar Honda rider Eugene Laverty, needing just a top ten finish to secure the championship in Portimao in his debut season in WSS.

Crutchlow, who will move to World Superbikes with Yamaha next season, has ridden at Portimao as a wildcard last season but will not be complacent as he goes to the “home” circuit of title rival Laverty, whose Parkalgar team are based in Portimao.

“It’s going to be a tough weekend,” said Crutchlow. “There are plenty of things to concentrate on but I’m looking forward to it, it’s not over until it’s over! I need to concentrate on the job in hand, not to win the race but to win the title. We’ve worked hard for it all year, so we need to go there and make it happen.”

“It will be a very exciting round for us, we are ready to rock and roll for the last one and we’re looking forward to a good result,” added Yamaha World Supersport Team Manager Wilco Zeelenberg.

“We don’t want to think too much about it but we are really trying to get the championship. It’s not over yet though; we’ve been there before, we were 17 points ahead in 2006 and didn’t win, anything can happen. Cal knows what he needs to do in the race so we’re going to give him all the support he need as and we believe we can take the title on Sunday.”
