No surgery required for Hayden
Nicky Hayden has received a boost ahead of the start of MotoGP testing after being told that he will not require surgery on a broken shoulder.
The Ducati rider broke his left shoulder blade and fractured two ribs while training at an indoor flat track facility near his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky on December 27, raising fears that the former champion could miss the opening pre-season test on January 31.
But after flying to California to have the scapula reassessed by Dr. Arthur Ting, Hayden was told that he would not need to go under the knife.
Hayden later confirmed via Twitter: “Good check up at the Doc. No surgery needed”
The American, who was riding a motorcycle for the first time since breaking his scaphoid at the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix on November 6, suffered the training injuries during a “freak accident” when a slower rider tried to move out of his way.
Hayden also made his views known following a spate of comments from fans questioning why road racers put themselves at risk by training on motocross bikes during the winter.
Hayden retweeted a comment by Moto2 star Bradley Smith which said “Do you think Racers would ride Motocross if we didn’t feel it was of ‘benefit’ to us #readingstupidcomments” adding the words “true that”.
