Pedercini turn to Italian Champion

Italian Superbike champion Luca Scassa will compete in the World Superbike Championship next season after Team Pedercini Kawasaki confirmed their rider line-up for 2009.

Scassa, who will ride with the number 99 plate in next season’s WSB championship, won last year’s Italian Superbike Championship with MV Augusta to go with his Italian STK1000 title won back in 2006.

The 25-year-old has also gained experience of riding outside of Italy, with an award-winning stint in the AMA Superbike competition.

Scassa was certainly up for the challenge of competing amongst the world’s best, claiming that he was very much aiming for regular points finishes.

“I’m going to face this new experience full of self-confidence,” he claimed. “I’m sure to power to some good result, I’m excited and I’m burning to start the championship. I would like to finish constantly into the points, and help the team in developing the machine as well, in order to try to be in the top-10 sometimes”.

The man from Arezzo will be joined at Pedercini by Spaniard David Salom who will make the step up from World Supersport for 2009.

The former Spanish Supersport champion, claimed that his goal for the season was to repay the faith that team bosses had shown in him.

“This is a very big opportunity in my career,” said the 24-year-old. “I will enter the championship of the best riders and I want to capitalize this chance. I would like to thank the team for having put its confidence in me. I will do my best to give them many satisfactions”.

Team Manager Donato Pedercini added: “Once again we are going to line-up two young riders, giving them the chance to play their cards in a very hard-fought championship. We are already working hard in order to develop the bike, and we are going to test the machines on the end of January at Portimao during the testing with the other teams.”
