Pedrosa worried about Honda development

Dani Pedrosa has revealed that Honda aren’t making the progress that he had hoped for in pre-season following his disappointing showing in Sepang, claiming that the team is still learning to make use of the new suspension.

Honda have switched from Showa to Ohlins suspension for 2010 and the Spaniard believes that getting the new suspension to work with the RC212V chassis is the biggest challenge facing the team in pre-season – one that they will need to continue working on in Qatar later this month.

“We mainly focused on the new chassis and Ohlins suspension again, after the tests we did at the beginning of the month here in Malaysia,” Pedrosa told MotoGP.com. “To be honest, the sensations on this machine are still new for me because as well as starting to work with Ohlins after so much time with Showa (both Honda and I), the chassis has changed and the electronics have evolved. What we’re looking for now is a good combination of everything and we still haven’t found it, we haven’t made the progress we expected. So we need to reflect on it, see what we need and advance in the forthcoming test in Qatar.”

Pedrosa has also conceded that the team may be forced to “make do” with whatever the team have managed to come up with at the first race of the season in Losail on April 11, believing that a lack of testing time could leave them trailing the likes of Ducati and Yamaha.

“I’m not worried, but it’s true that we only have two days left to test and perhaps that won’t be enough time for us,” he added. “However, that’s what there is and we have to work with that, so we’ll try and be as ready as possible for the first race. Honda is making a huge effort and I’m also making a maximum effort, so the results have to be noticeable soon.”
