Pirelli happy as Guintoli wins on BSB debut
Official tyre supplier Pirelli were satisfied with the performance of their rubber in the opening round of the new British Superbike season, with two separate winners and closely fought lap times throughout the weekend.
Only three hundredths of a second split the top ten best lap times at Brands Hatch as former MotoGP rider Sylvain Guintoli and Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier took the first victories of the season.
Pirelli’s new SC0 compound rear played an important role as superbike rookie Sylvain Guintoli enjoyed a fantastic debut, opting for the new three phase F1 style Swan Combi 50 Roll which handed him pole position.
The Suzuki rider, who also came second in race two, said: “I was very impressed with the Pirellis, the Suzuki works really well with them. In qualifying we were approaching the outright lap record and obviously that was impressive. I am leaving the first round as Championship leader so we are very happy.”
The new softer compound SC0 tyre was the tyre of choice for winners of both races and a majority of the grid in race two, with only a handful of racers opting for the SC1 compound.
Jason Griffiths, Racing Manager at Pirelli commented, “It’s been a great start to the season and a very successful introduction of our additional new softer rear compound race tyre to the Superbike Championship. It proved to be a really popular choice with a majority of the riders and teams using it in race two. This tyre is available to the club racer and track day user through our Pirelli dealer network.”
