Promising signs for Smith in Jerez test
British teenager Bradley Smith continued his impressive start to 2009 by posting the second fastest time of the week in the 125cc test at Jerez.
Smith, who secured a factory ride with the Aspar for 2009, posted a time of 1:47.807 at the Spanish circuit, with only him and Spanish teammate Julian Simon lapping below the 1:48 mark.
Simon was still almost 0.7secs ahead of Smith, setting a new lap record in the process by nearly a third of a second..
Smith’s compatriot Scott Redding also had a promising final day in Southern Spain, posting the seventh fastest time of the session at 1.49.170
In the 250cc testing, Spaniard Alvaro Bautista topped the time charts on the third and final day with a best time of 1:43.488 - 0.058secs quicker than the track record set by defending champion Marco Simoncelli.
Behind Bautista in the top were the Spaniard´s new teammate and 125cc title holder Mike Di Meglio, Team Scot Honda´s new recruit Hiroshi Aoyama, former 125cc champion Gabor Talmacsi (Balaton Racing) and Emmi-Caffe Latte´s Thomas Luthi.
