Quotes of the day from Croft – Saturday
After qualifying the top riders were approached for their thoughts on the Roll for Pole qualifying session. Here’s what they had to say.
Pole man Leon Camier delightedly said: “It is awesome to be on pole position again here at Croft, but that was one session where you had to be really committed as the track was quite hot so the bike was sliding around a bit. There were a couple of times that I scared myself out there a bit, but what we did was good enough. I think we still need to make some setting changes tomorrow but we can do that during warm up. I need to get a good start here, but the track usually produces some close racing so I don’t think anyone will get away and it will be a good race.”
Second placed starter, Simon Andrews, for MSS Colchester Kawasaki said: “We worked really hard in qualifying and finishing second is such a good result for the team. It is our best result of the season so far and that means we only have one more place to achieve this year and that is of course the pole! I need to get the whole shot, but I know that even when I think I have got it, Stuart (Easton) nips by like a freight train.
“I need to get ahead and stay there, especially Leon (Camier); I got him back once at Cadwell Park but then he was able to get me back so hopefully if I get ahead I can hold him off. I think that a win is not that far away; we have proved before we can run at the front, like we did at Mallory Park, so I definitely haven’t ruled it out. We have made some really good improvements all year and I want to be back on the podium tomorrow to keep the momentum up now we have got this far.” He added.
Third placed, Stuart Easton, commented: ”
This morning we used the same rear tyre and we knew that we had a strong race pace for tomorrow. The bike was set shorter today and we raised the front and that seems to have done the trick, as that was the best solution from what we worked through yesterday. We know which tyre we need to use for the race tomorrow so I am confident with that.
“It is certainly job done for today as we needed to be on the front row and that is what we have done. We need to have a good start, but as I am sure every rider will tell you, we still think we can do more so we have some changes to make in warm up. I hope that tomorrow we can finally get that win, but you never know might what happen.”
Surprised with his front row start, Josh Brookes said: “That qualifying was a surprise for us, as I wasn’t expecting to be on the front row. We had not been able to run as close to some of the other guys yesterday and we have fine tuned the springs and just made some adjustments and then we put it on the front row. A couple of times I thought I was going to be off and when I came in I knew I had a good lap but didn’t think it would be enough. We have managed to bridge the gap from practice to qualifying, but I didn’t recognise the improvement until I came back into parc ferme. It is a relief to be on the front row so hopefully tomorrow we can get a good start and challenge Leon.”
