Rea looking for Nurburgring return
Jonathan Rea is eying a return to the action at the Nurburgring next month after spending three months out with a wrist injury.
Rea has faced a lengthy lay-off after suffering a complicated injury to his right wrist, breaking the distal end of his radius and rupturing his scaphoid lunate ligament.
The injury, which has kept him out of the last four rounds, has dropped him to 12th in the rider’s standings, ending any hopes that he had of winning the World Superbike championship, but the Northern Irishman is preparing to return to action in two weeks time in Germany.
Rea – who got engaged to his girlfriend Tatia Weston last month – said on his official blog that a comeback in September “is a little personal goal of mine”.
He added: “So far this year has been one of the most frustrating in my career as my crew have been working hard for little reward.
“Everything is kicking off for 2012 already and the news that Yamaha will quit World Superbikes is a massive blow for the championship. My personal opinion is those two bikes will still be on the grid next year but in another team.
“On my side, my management are considering our options right now. I have had three years in World Superbikes and this year has been one to forget, so we are working hard to try and make the necessary changes to have a successful 2012,” he added.
“I think by the next race [at Nurburgring] things will start to fall into place and hopefully I’ll be able to tell you what my plans are for next season.”
