Redding signs Moto2 deal
Scott Redding has declared himself as “delighted” after securing a ride in the inaugural Moto2 championship with Marc VDS Racing.
Redding, the youngest ever Grand Prix winner following his 125 GP win at Donington in 2008, feared that his career had stalled after a difficult 2009, with no offer from his Blusens Aprilia team or any other team in the MotoGP paddock on the table.
But former Kawasaki MotoGP boss Michael Bartholemy has stepped in to offer Redding a lifeline, confirming the 17-year-old as his rider for 2010.
“I’m over the moon to have signed up with the Marc VDS Racing Team for the coming season,” said Redding. “I’ve spoken with Michael Bartholemy [team manager] a few times now and the whole set-up seems ultra-professional, which I’m obviously pleased about.
The move will see him riding a Suter MMX chassis this season, a bike he is yet to sample during testing.
“I’ve already tested a couple of the Moto2 bikes and first impressions were good, but I can’t wait to try the Suter MMX machine out in February. I saw the bike on track during its initial shakedown tests at the end of last year, so it will be interesting to see how it has evolved when I test it for the first time in February.”
“Scott is a very talented young rider who maybe didn’t have the machinery on which to show his true potential in 2009, but whom I have every confidence will have a major impact on the Moto2 World Championship in its inaugural season,” added Bartholemy.
