Riders return to Mallory after last year’s fiasco
Returning riders add a new dimension to an already scorching British Superbike Championship as the series moves nearer to its crucial knock-out phase at Mallory Park
Long term injured riders James Ellison and Simon Andrews have mixed memories from last year’s Mallory event but aim to get their campaigns back on track to finish in the elite ‘group of 6′ who will then battle for this year’s title.
James Ellison won last year’s first Mallory outing after an unlucky Josh Brookes took out most of the front runners, including the leader at the time Simon Andrews, at the hairpin in a move that later saw him suspended for two rounds.
The two riders are joined by BSB hard-man Karl Harris who makes a welcome return to the blue ribbond class and exciting debutant Andrew Pitt, as the ex-World Supersport Champion lines up for the ever changing Motorpoint Yamaha squad.
However, the in-form men remain title leader Tommy Hill and runner-up Josh Brookes, who took his first BSB win last time out at Cadwell Park and also chalked up an impressive double Superstock win at last week’s Silverstone MotoGP. Brookes’ HM Plant Honda teammate Ryuichi Kiyonari took the other Cadwell win, finally showing his true class this year. Ellison’s fellow Swan Honda rider Stuart Easton had a Cadwell to forget and will look to bounce back strongly at the demanding Mallory Park circuit.
Michael Rutter, who previously stormed a memorable wet-dry Mallory race, is in good form on his RidersMotorcycles.com Ducati, whilst Relentless TAS Suzuki riders Alistair Seeley and Michael Laverty look to continue their strong team results.
The two 30 lap races are set to be red hot in terms of temperature and pace as the tricky circuit always produces close racing with little chance of breakaway. If temperatures remain high tyre choice will be crucial especially as the circuit is predominantly right biased.
