Rossi admires Schumacher longevity

Valentino Rossi has spoken of his admiration for Michael Schumacher, admitting that he is impressed that the former Formula One world champion is still racing at age 43.

Speaking to Italy’s Sky Sport 24 channel, Rossi, who turns 33 next month, said: “I think it’s great to see [what] Schumacher [is doing]. He is ten years older than me but still in great shape and full of energy. At 43, I want to be like him.”

Rossi said that there were similarities between himself and Schumacher, “I’m an Italian racing for an Italian team, Schumacher is a German with Mercedes. And we have the same chances in the championship,” he smiled.

Rossi’s contract with Ducati expires at the end of the 2012 season but the Italian has gone on record that he would like a new two-year contract until 2014, likely to be his last contract before retirement.
