Rossi fastest on day two in Sepang

Valentino Rossi posted the fastest time of the day as the first official test of 2010 continued in Sepang.

After day one was reserved for the test riders, the big guns in MotoGP were let lose for the first time in 2010 in Malaysia for the second of three days of testing this week.

And the reigning World Champion picked up where he left off last season, posting a fastest time of 2:01.411 on his new Yamaha M1 – just under a second off the time of 2:00.518 that secured him pole position for last year’s race at the same circuit.

Casey Stoner was second fastest although the Aussie was close to half a second behind his title rival, with Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards third fastest, three tenths of a second slower than Stoner.

Loris Capirossi on the Suzuki was a promising fourth fastest, ahead of Rossi’s Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo, who completed the top five.

The fastest Honda was that piloted by Andrea Dovizioso, who was sixth quickest – 1.219 seconds off the pace.

San Carlo Gresini Honda couldn’t be accused of rider bias however, with both “Marco’s”; Simoncelli and Melandri, riding identical bikes to identical times of 2:03.609.
