Rossi goes under knife to fix shoulder problem

Valentino Rossi faces a three month recovery after going under the knife to fix an ongoing shoulder problem last week.

The former World Champion, who will ride for Ducati in 2011, missed three rounds of the season with a broken leg following a crash in Mugello but Rossi has also been contending with a longer-term shoulder injury, picked up in a Motocross accident at the start of the season.

Following a successful first outing for Ducati during the Valencia test last week, Rossi returned to Italy for surgery and, after a successful operation, Dr Alex Castagna and Dr Giuseppe Porcellini of the Cervesi di Cattolica hospital confirmed that Rossi should expect a recovery period of around 90 days.

“The condition of the shoulder was really critical: Valentino really had to be tough to keep racing with that kind of injury,” said the surgeons. “The intervention went well, without any complications. For rehabilitation, you’d usually need 90 days for that kind of injury but we’ll do our best in order to meet the requirements of the rider.”
