Rossi happy after Ferrari test

Valentino Rossi took Ferrari’s 2008 F1 model for a spin, quite literally, in Barcelona but still managed to post a blistering time of 1:21.900 on the final day.

After struggling with unfavourable weather conditions early on, Rossi posted the time that was just 0.230 seconds slower than the circuit lap record set by Kimi Raikkonen set in the same car in 2008.

This week’s test was the sixth time that Rossi has sat behind the wheel of the Ferrari F1 entry, with speculation persistently linking him with a more permanent seat in F1.

“We kept the last three quarters of an hour to try a ‘time attack’ with little petrol and fresh tyres,” said the 30-year-old, who added he had enjoyed himself even more than during his last test with Ferrari at Mugello in November 2008.

“It’s more effort in Mugello but this track here is really wonderful, with motorbikes and cars.”

A success all round then, but the Italian did end up facing the wrong way early on!
