Rossi keen to forget Indianapolis disaster
Valentino Rossi has admitted that he wants to forget the disaster at Indianapolis after his crash threw the championship race wide open.
Rossi’s crash and subsequent retirement from Sunday’s Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which handed teammate and title rival Jorge Lorenzo to snatch victory, halved his lead in the championship over Lorenzo to just 25 points.
Rossi crashed on lap six and, despite managing to recover his Yamaha, retired shortly after to leave Lorenzo to record his third win of the season, finishing 9.435 seconds ahead of second placed Alex de Angelis.
And Rossi admitted that the second score-less finish of the season, the other being a 16th place finish at Le Mans, was a huge blow to his title prospects and that the focus was very much on Misano this weekend.
“I’m glad we don’t have long until the next race because I quickly want to forget the mistake of Indianapolis,” admitted Rossi.
“Last year at Misano was incredible, to win in front of all my fans and so close to home was a great emotion and after missing out in Mugello this year we are really focused on trying to get the best result there.
“As usual my fan club will have a big party there so I hope that we can give them a good show, it’s always great to ride at home.
“As we saw last weekend, anything can happen and the championship isn’t over, we have to keep working at the maximum and just try to take as many points as we can each time.”
