Rossi leaves hospital in Florence

World champion Valentino Rossi has been released from hospital in Florence after undergoing surgery on his fractured shin.

Rossi, who crashed out of Saturday practice ahead of the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, has been transferred this Thursday to a hospital in Cattolica, closer to his home.

Rossi was transferred from the Centro Traumatologico Ortopedico, Florence to Cattolica at around 15:30 Italian time by helicopter, where he will then meet with local doctors to continue his recovery.

Rossi is expected to be out of action for several months following his crash, with the San Marino Grand Prix on September 5 thought to be the most likely target date.
