Rossi pass honoured at SPEED Awards
Valentino Rossi’s pass on Casey Stoner at this year’s US Grand Prix has been voted the “pass of the year” in an online poll.
Rossi’s move on Stoner at the famous Corkscrew turn at Laguna Seca was picked out by the majority of the 120,000 voters as the single best move in all of motorsport in 2008 in the SPEED Performance Awards when voting closed earlier this week.
Rossi came out on top in an epic US Grand Prix at the California circuit in which the lead changed hands numerous times before a mistake from Stoner handed the Italian victory back in July.
That race signalled a turning point for the championship, with Rossi winning the subsequent four races as he romped to the world title with three rounds to spare.
The only other bike racing highlights to be honoured in the awards was 13-year-old AMA Rookies Cup winner Benny Solis, who secured the ‘Best Finish’ gong for his 0.0008 seconds victory over Leandro Mercado.
The SPEED Performance Awards will be broadcast online on February 18th. For more information visit http://www.speedperformanceawards.com/.
