Rossi signs Monster deal
Valentino Rossi is one rider who appears to have benefitted from the demise of the Kawasaki Racing Team after the world champion signed a two-year sponsorship deal with American energy drink Monster.
The Italian is set to pocket €2.5m over the course of the two-year deal, with a further €500,000 on the table should the Italian win the 2009 MotoGP championship.
Under the agreement, Monster’s distinctive three-scratch ‘M’ logo will appear on the rider’s helmet, leathers and racing apparel whilst a new range of Monster-Rossi merchandise is also in the offing.
The deal leaves Kawasaki rider John Hopkins without a sponsor following the withdrawal of Kawasaki from the MotoGP championship.
The American, who is now without a ride following the team’s withdrawal due to financial concerns, was backed heavily by Monster, as was the team itself.
An official statement regarding the sponsorship deal is expected this week.
