Rossi Undeterred by Going Solo

Valentino Rossi has declared that he is more than happy to go solo in the forthcoming MotoGP season.

Rossi will compete in a ‘one-man’ factory team for the 2008 season as he looks to turn around his ailing fortunes in recent seasons.

Whilst the Italian, who is without a world championship since 2005, will ride under the Fiat Yamaha banner alongside Jorge Lorenzo, the team will be split into separate pit garages throughout the season whilst the pair will also use different tyre brands.

The split means that Rossi and his team have no communication with Lorenzo, with speculation that Rossi was reluctant to have the former Fortuna Aprilia rider in the factory garage.

The 28-year-old told MCN: “I have what I want and I like this situation because we are just one team with less people, but all the people I like working with me. The atmosphere is beautiful.”

“Now I am happy riding my bike and this is very important for me. I enjoy the tyres and the bike and this is really important for the rider. I feel strong and ready to fight,”

Yesterday Rossi brought a close to his ongoing tax dispute with the Italian authorities with a £26m settlement.
