Schwantz reunited with championship winner at Indy
Kevin Schwantz will wow the crowds at Indianapolis this weekend as he rides the Suzuki RGV500 that took him to the 1993 world championship.
S Schwantz will ride the restored Suzuki RGV500 on Sunday around the 2.621-mile “Brickyard” IMS as the curtain raiser to the Red Bull Indianapolis GP.
It will be the first time that the 45-year-old, who recorded 25 Grand Prix wins in his GP career, will have ridden the championship winning Suzuki since his retirement in 1995.
“We fired it up one weekend, I think, late in the year in 1995,” Schwantz said. “I’m looking forward to it.
“I’ve sat on it a couple of times. We’ve got some new Michelin tires for it. I’m not going to try and throw down a qualifying lap, that’s for sure, but I’m really looking forward to riding it. Hearing that V4 two-stroke running around out here is going to be special.”
Fans at the Indianapolis Grand Prix will also get a glimpse of the new Moto2 class motorcycles that will replace the 250cc championship in 2010. The demonstration of the 600cc machines will take place between 4pm and 4:40pm local time on the Saturday, following 250cc qualifying.
