Shakey In Line For WSB Switch
The rider merry-go-round is in full swing, with Shane Byrne the latest rider to be linked with a new ride for next season.
The Xerox Ducati team wants Byrne to make the move from British Superbikes to race in the 2009 Superbike World Championship. The current British Superbike series leader is wanted by team boss Davide Tardozzi to head up the factory squad for next season.
Veteran Troy Bayliss will be retiring from the Ducati team at the end of the current Superbike World Championship season, whilst Michel Fabrizio’s place could also be up for grabs depending on his performances during the rest of the season.
There’s expected to be a lot of interested in the Ducati seat, with a shortlist of world class riders, including Byrne, being lined to replace Bayliss.
Shakey has helped his cause by dominating this year’s British Superbike Championship on the Airwaves Ducati. He takes an 83 point lead into round six, chalking up seven wins in the process.
On course to secure his second British Superbike Championship, the 32-year old also has previous in the SBK. Who can forget his barnstorming double win at Brands Hatch for the British round in 2003!
His pace and consistency this year hasn’t gone unnoticed by Tardozzi, who will be hoping he can replicate his scintillating form in the Superbike World Championship next year.
