Silverstone to host Day of Champions event
Silverstone will host the official MotoGP Day of Champions event in 2010 in aid of the championship’s official charity Riders for Health.
The event, which has traditionally been held ahead of the British Grand Prix at Donington, will continue next season at Silverstone to raise funds for the charity, which provides motorcycles to aid workers in some of the most rural parts of Africa.
The event will take place on Thursday 17 June, ahead of the Grand Prix on Sunday 20 June, the first to take place at Silverstone since 1986.
The event will see the stars of MotoGP onstage to auction signed memorabilia, helmets, leathers and paintings, which in 2009 raised a whopping £77,000 for Riders for Health. Riders from the 125 championship and the Moto2 series will also be on hand to auction off memorabilia.
In 2010 fans will also have the chance to see inside the paddock and pit-lane at Silverstone for the first time.
More information about Day of Champions 2010 will be announced shortly, with details being posted on the Riders for Health website at www.riders.org.
