Silverstone Unveil Future Plans
Silverstone bosses released their plans for the future of the Northamptonshire circuit which would see a replacement of the pit and paddock area.
Silverstone, which hosts one leg of the British Superbike championship, is desperately trying to maintain its place on the Formula One racing calendar, with a complete redevelopment of the circuit over the next ten years.
The latest proposals involve replacing the existing pit and paddock area, currently between Copse and Woodcote corners to a new location between Abbey and Club corners, as well as a complete reconfirmation of the respective stretch of the circuit.
The new complex, which was designed by sports architects HOK – the same architects that designed the new Wembley stadium, will also include new hospitality and VIP facilities, media centre and a race control building.
The plans are just another stage in the overall redevelopment project which could see a new manufacturer test centre, business park, welcome centre, extreme sport and leisure complex, two hotels, a new university campus and housing all build in the proximity of the circuit.
Damon Hill, President of the BRDC said: “Silverstone is a great track with a great history.
“These images are the vision of the future for Silverstone, and one we fervently hope will be realised, in order to provide a venue where all forms of motor sport can be celebrated in style, for the benefit of the competitor and spectator alike.
“This new facility, and the redevelopment at large, will help attract more business to Northamptonshire and create more jobs for local communities.”
