Smrz pens new Guandalini Ducati contract
Czech rider Jacob Smrz has secured his future in the World Superbike Championship after signing a one-year contract extension with Guandalini Ducati.
Smrz, who posted a number of strong results in 2009, will line up for a third successive year with the satellite Ducati team after agreeing to continue into 2010.
Smrz secured a respectable tenth place finish in the championship this season, securing the first podium of his career in Assen and a pole position at Misano, where he went on to finish fourth. The 26 year-old also qualified on the front row in Losail, Phillip Island and Assen.
Guandalini Ducati is yet to make an announcement on who, if anybody, will be Smrz’s teammate for 2010, after both Brendan Roberts and Gregorio Lavillia riding for some part of the championship last season before the team moved to a one-bike operation after round nine.
