Spanish GP confirmed for Jerez

The Spanish Grand Prix will be held in Jerez after the circuit owners finalised a four-year contract with MotoGP promoter, Dorna Sports.

The Spanish Grand Prix will continue to be held at Jerez, where it has been run consecutively since 1989, until 2016 after an agreement was reached between the circuit owner, the local authority and Dorna. The Grand Prix, which is round two of the championship, will take place on 29 April 2012.

The Spanish Grand Prix for 2012 was originally listed as “subject to contract”, amid speculation that the Circuito de Jerez could not front the fee demanded by Dorna, despite being one of the most attended races on the calendar.

“We are delighted to confirm that the 2012 Grand Prix of Spain will be held at the Circuito de Jerez, a very special location for the MotoGP World Championship,” said Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.

“I’d like to thank the Junta de AndalucĂa and Jerez de la Frontera City Council for their support in working towards securing this iconic event. We’ll now look ahead to the future of the event and focus on working together to reach an agreement until 2016.”

Further races in Spain will take place at Barcelona, Aragon and Valencia.
