Stoner fastest in Friday practice
Casey Stoner dominated practice for the AirAsia British MotoGP, setting the fastest times in both of Friday’s sessions.
In mixed weather conditions, Stoner posted times of 2:03.748 and 2:15.666 in the first and second practice respectively, well ahead of the challenge set by Gresini’s Marco Simonchelli.
Stoner’s FP1 was 0.659 seconds ahead of the best lap set by Simoncelli and more than one second faster than championship leader Jorge Lorenzo.
Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso completed the top five and Britain’s Cal Crutchlow will have every reason to be positive after posting the sixth fastest time of the day.
Crutchlow’s team-mate Colin Edwards was 16th and slowest as he returned to the track a week after breaking his collarbone.
Edwards suffered the injury during practice for the Catalunya Grand Prix Iin Barcelona a week ago, but after undergoing surgery the following day to have the bone repaired with a metal plate and 13 screws he had hoped to race last Sunday, just two days after suffering the injury.
Edwards was prevented from racing by doctors but was cleared this week to make his comeback.
