Suzuki Pair Confident For Home Circuit
Suzuki riders Tom Sykes and Atushi Watanabe believe that riding on the team’s home circuit will give them an added boost for the belated BSB opener this weekend.
After heavy snow forced the closure of the official opening to the new British Superbike championship two weeks ago, the championship will get underway this Sunday at Thruxton and the Dorset-based Suzuki outfit are talking up their chances of picking up some early championship points.
And Tom Sykes in particular is looking forward to Sunday’s event, which will give him the first opportunity to ride his new Suzuki GSX-R100 competitively.
“Thruxton is a circuit I really enjoy as it is fast and flowing,” said the 22-year-old.
“It is very abrasive so it has good grip but is hard on tyres. To string together a good lap you need to make sure once you are through the first turn that you make the following corners flow together. I try to be pin point accurate and very smooth.
“I’m really looking forward to it as it produces good racing. It is my team’s home round so I will be trying my hardest like I do at every round – I’ll give it 110 per cent,” added the Huddersfield-born rider.
Suzuki teammate Atushi Watanabe will be making his first visit to the Hampshire circuit but believes that he can quickly learn the course and mount a challenge.
“Everyone tells me it is very fast corners, I think it will suit my style,” said the Japanese rider.
“My Rizla Suzuki will be geared for high speed I think I will like this track as it is very, very fast. It is Rizla Suzuki home round so I will try hard for my team and for me.”
