Tech 3 not worried by Dovizioso injury

Yamaha Tech 3 remain confident that Andrea Dovizioso will be fit in time for the first MotoGP test in Sepang despite the Italian breaking his collarbone.

Dovizioso, who joined the Yamaha satellite team this season, suffered the injury during motocross training last week, casting doubt over his fitness for the January 31 test in Malaysia.

The former Repsol Honda rider underwent surgery in Bologna at the weekend and Tech 3 boss Herve Poncharal does not have any concerns over the rider’s preparations for the new season – especially as his team-mate Cal Crutchlow and 2011 Tech 3 rider Colin Edwards both shrugged off collarbone injuries quickly last season.

“There are three weeks before the Sepang test, which is only the first test of the year,” Poncharal told the official MotoGP website.

“Also, both Colin and Cal recovered very quickly from similar injuries last season.”

Edwards and Crutchlow missed just one race each following their injuries at Catalunya and Silverstone respectively, with Edwards managing a podium finish in Britain only eight days after his breakage.
