The MotoGP man of steel

The MotoGP man of steel

He’s MotoGP’s man of steel, but the summer break has given Jorge Lorenzo time to recover from the three toe fractures he received at the Red Bull US Grand Prix.

Lorenzo suffered a first lap crash at Laguna Seca, but fortunately for the rookie rider, he did not reinjure his ankles.

In May, the 21-year-old was thrown from his bike during practice in China, but remarkably he still went on to finish fourth after racing with two broken ankles.

Now the short hiatus will give Lorenzo time to recover.  Doctors have revealed fractures of the third, fourth and fifth metatarsal of his left foot, though the breaks were suffered without dislocation.

Dr. Xavier Mir has prescribed ten days of limited movement with the aim of having the Fiat Yamaha rider fit and ready for the next round of the MotoGP World Championship in Brno. Lorenzo will have to sport a cast in the Czech Republic and a weight-relieving splint will be attached after the race to allow him to walk.

Fortunately for Lorenzo, the layoff does give him time to follow another famous biking series.

“Luckily I have time to recover before Brno, even if I won´t have any holiday. Right now I´m going to enjoy the Tour de France on television”, he said.
