Toseland ready to bounce back in Misano

James Toseland is hoping that the extended break and a strong test in Misano last week can help him to to bounce back from a difficult outing in Salt Lake City as he heads to San Marino this weekend.

The Yamaha rider heads to Misano this weekend looking to put a disastrous round in the USA, finishing ninth in race one before retiring from the second to put a serious dent in his hopes of pushing the likes of Leon Haslam and Max Biaggi at the top of the championship table.

But Toseland believes Yamaha have made good use of the extended break between rounds which translated into an encouraging result in the mid-season test in Misano last week, with him and Yamaha teammate Cal Crutchlow posting the second fastest and the fastest times of the test respectively.

“I had a pole here in 2006 in Superbike and although there were circuit changes in 2007, I’ve tested twice here this year so I know the circuit well,” claimed Toseland. “That, combined with all the hard work my crew chief Frankie and the Yamaha Team have been doing to get the best possible set up for the track gives me confidence that we’re on for a good result.

“We’ve proved we can be very fast here even on used race tyres so I can’t wait to get on the bike and kick off the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Crutchlow has claimed that he is ready to fight for a strong result in Misano after taking a clean sweep of pole, fastest lap and the race win at the circuit in World Supersport last season.

“I really enjoyed racing here last year even though it was a red flag race,” he claimed. “I know what it’s like to fight and win here on a Supersport bike so I’m looking forward to finding out what the battle is like on a Superbike.

“We’ve been working hard to get a really good set up for the track, so we have every reason to believe we’ll both be up there fighting at the front.”
