Toseland relishing Monza return
James Toseland admits that he is looking forward to making a return to Monza and is heading to in confident mood following his performance at Assen.
The Sterilgarda Yamaha man will race to the Italian circuit for the first time since 2007, having missed out on visiting the circuit during his two-year stint in MotoGP, after a promising performance in the last round of the World Superbike championship in Holland and an encouraging showing in last week’s test at Misano.
Toseland secured second and third place finishes at the TT Circuit in Assen two weeks ago, signalling that the 2007 champion has got to grips with the new R1 after a slow start to the season.
That belief was reinforced during a mid-season test in Misano, with Toseland posting the second fastest unofficial time on both days, giving him plenty of confidence ahead of this weekend’s round.
“The test last week was encouraging,” claimed Toseland.
“I am particularly looking forward to Monza; I’ve always loved riding there, as we didn’t in Moto GP I’m happy to be going back. It’s got an ambience in the park, to hear the engines resonating through the trees is really special and you can feel the history. The high speed circuit is also pretty special; to hold it flat out in top gear for 7 or 8 seconds is something you don’t do anywhere else.
“I’m really pleased with the way things are progressing with package and the team and as it’s the home race for them it also adds something extra to the weekend.”
