Toseland to test fitness at Monza
James Toseland faces a race against time to be fit for this weekend’s Italian World Superbikes round, although he will take part in Friday practice as he continues his recovery from a broken wrist.
The BMW Italia rider has missed the last two rounds following a crash during a private test in Aragon and it was initially believed that Toseland would miss out this week’s round in Monza but after having the pins removed last week, he will at least ride during Friday’s practice session before deciding whether to race later in the weekend.
“I’ll definitely be getting on the bike,” said the former MotoGP rider. “The wrist is making good progress. I’m doing daily physio and conditioning.
But Toseland has admitted that the key for him this weekend is fitness rather than results, with the BMW Italia team having a replacement rider on stand-by should he be unable to race.
“The team will maybe have a replacement rider ready in case but they have said they would prefer me to just to ride around,” he added. “I ride for an Italian team and 800 guests are coming from BMW. But I am not thinking about results.”
