Vermeulen to test in Sepang

Chris Vermeulen is set to return to Superbike action in Sepang in the New Year, as Kawasaki prepare to take a six-man testing team to Malaysia.

The Australian rider, who hasn’t ridden a bike in six months through injury, will be part of a sizable Kawasaki team for the four day test, starting in Sepang on January 10.

Vermeulen will be joined by teammates Tom Sykes and Joan Lascorz as well as test rider Katsuaki Fujiwara, British Superbike rider and Macau GP rider Stuart Easton and Pedercini rider Roberto Rolfo as Kawasaki pins high hopes on the new ZX-10R.

Kawasaki has already increased its factory line-up to three riders, with the addition of Lascorz, and has invested significant resource into the 2011 season after years of poor showings.

The manufacturer has just one podium finish to its name in the last four years, with Fonsi Nieto claiming a third place finish at Magny-Cours in 2007. Kawasaki’s last race win came through Chris Walker at Assen in 2006.
