WSB breaks new ground in Russia

World Superbikes will race in Russia for the first time ever in 2012 after agreeing a ten year contract with Yakhnick Motorsport to race in Moscow.

The first race at the new Moscow Raceway circuit takes place on 24th to 26th August 2012 and marks the first time a world level motorsport event will take place in Russia.

Paolo Flammini, CEO of Infront Motorsports, was joined by world champions Carlos Checa and Chaz Davies when he announced the deal, claiming that Russia had emerged as a key market for manufacturers.

He told Motorcycle News: “It is our task as the promoter to develop new markets. There are regions in the world where business is stronger and motorcycling is growing.

“In Asia the market for motorcycles is very big whereas in Russia it is very interesting because even though the market for bikes is smaller there are many growing companies. These companies need to be known around the world and they need promotion so there is definitely potential for sponsorship of existing teams.”
